Where to stay in Istanbul

In order to properly enjoy the city with an incredible view, one must find a decent and affordable place to stay in. Istanbul has a lot of those to offer, regardless of the neighborhood you’re about to land in. Istanbul is adaptable to the depth of everyone’s pockets; one can have just as much fun with a lot of money or less money.

Boutique hotels

Ibrahim Pasha Hotel

This lovely guesthouse is arguably the most tasteful boutique hotel in Sultanahmet, successfully blending a stylish modern interior with Ottoman antiques. The rooms are uncluttered and very comfortable and owing to its side-street location, quiet. Views from the roof terrace across the domes and minarets of Sultanahmet and down to the Sea of Marmara are superb, and the freshly prepared breakfast (with latte and espresso on lap) in the cozy and charming downstairs breakfast room a delight

Villa Denise

The silhouette of the Bosphorus villages welcomes you as you enter Villa Denise, inviting you on an historical journey amidst original Works of art and classical decoration. Its located in the heart of Arnavutkoy.

Ayasofya Konaklari

Ayasofya Konaklari is situated on Sogukcesme Street between the City’s greatest imperial monuments, the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace. A piece of art placed at the best location of history. Every house in this street, which is completely closed to traffic, greets the visitor with the name of perfume, such as Jasmine House, Honeysuckle House, Rose Mansion, Cyclamen House, etc. The houses consist of between four or ten rooms, each furnished in a particular colour: the yellow, blue or red rooms.

Anemon Galata Hotel

Anemon Galata Hotel serves in a building with a second degree historical monument status which is restored to its authentic state. Especially the ceiling decorations at the rooms are worth seeing. The hotel is conveniently located right next to Galata Tower, at a walking distance from İstiklal Street, with a clear view of historical sites like the Spice Market, Topkapı Palace and St. Sophia.

Sumahan-on-the-Water

It is not over-estimated when I describe the stay at Sumahan on the Water as the perfect way to experience Istanbul. Sumahan provides a wonderful base from which to enjoy the city at your leisure while residing in what is one of Istanbul’s most stunning locations. The complimentary boat service is a joy in itself, whisking you across the Bosphorus to Kabatas. Here you can walk (40-minutes) or take a new tram (10-minutes) directly into the Old City. Alternatively head up the hill towards Taksim and explore the myriad winding streets. At the end of the day you have the privilege of returning from the vibrant, noisy City to the breath of fresh air that is Sumahan.

Hotel Daphnis

Hotel Daphnis is a century-old building made up of four old rum houses, built in typical Greek style and directly opposite the patriarchate. Wooden trims, original window seats and carefully chosen ornaments reflect its history and heritage. The ground floor of the hotel is taken up by the Kozz Halic restaurant, which serves traditional Istanbul dishes and is growing increasingly popular thanks to the high quality service, excellent food and joyful atmosphere. Daphnis is ideally placed for exploring the Eminonu district: it’s within walking distance of the Blue Mosque and right next to the Golden Horn.
